In the cozy setting of my astrology class, I found myself seated next to my friend Davon Smith. As we engaged in conversation, I confided in him about my desire to find a good girl, someone who possessed qualities like beauty, intelligence, and a good sense of humor, among other things. It was in that moment that Davon, like a true wingman, decided to change the course of my life. He showed me a picture of Khayla, and I vividly remember that image to this day – I even have it saved in my phone. Impressed by her, I urged Davon to set up an introduction.

He promptly shared Khayla's Twitter handle, and I took the initiative to introduce myself. The rest, as they say, is history. Throughout our senior year, there wasn't a day Khayla and I didn't talk on the phone. Our first date, delayed by a couple of months due to some parental complications, took us to see "Devil's Due," a new scary movie at the time. I recall Khayla's outfit and the unexpected surprise – we were both wearing Jordan bred 11’s, matching sneakers that became a symbol of our connection. Despite her aversion to scary movies, she held onto my arm the entire night, creating a lasting memory.

After high school, our paths led us to different colleges, but we maintained communication. Every time we spoke, it felt like we were back in high school, with sparks flying and love lingering in the air. Khayla became a motivating force in my life, pushing me to graduate from college and attend the police academy to better myself, inspired by the incredible woman she is – nurturing, loving, with a fiery personality when comfortable. I realized that when you have someone like Khayla you’re compelled to strive and be a better man.

Trey and I met through a classmate of mine from middle school. Davon reached out to me on either Instagram or Twitter. I can never remember which one. He told me that he had a friend who was interested in me and asked if Trey could have my number. We spoke on social media first, I believe it was September of 2013. It was both of our senior year in high school. We talked on the phone every day for the rest of the school year. Our first date was to the movies, much like most high schoolers' first dates I’m sure. It was in November of that same year we met. We ended up wearing the same exact pair of sneakers that day, unplanned, they were the iconic and coveted Jordan-bred 11’s. We drove and mistakenly parked by a huge puddle. I really did not want to mess my shoes up and he could tell. Without even thinking Trey picked me up and carried me over the puddle. I’m not sure if he remembers that but I never forgot it. I was 18 thinking this guy is the one! And he is! We ended up going to different colleges after graduating from high school in May of 2014 but the energy never changed between the two of us. We always kept up, checked on each other and had a blast when we had the opportunity to speak on the phone. It was always as if we had spent no time apart once we’d talk for hours and hours. We got back together in early 2022 after knowing each other almost 10 years. Trey continues to carry me over metaphorical puddles in life. His calm demeanor and thoughtful actions always put me at ease. He’s my best friend and an amazing partner. Our love has shown me that no matter the time or circumstance when someone is for you, they just are. Nothing can keep you two apart. I am so excited for the next chapter of our lives, for all the beautiful, abundant and magical moments life has to offer us!
